XRD SoftPress

XRD SoftPress specification

The XRD SoftPress instrument is a bench-top, semi-automated pneumatic press which enables the quick and repeatable preparation of powder samples for XRD analysis.

Pour

It features high-precision, custom-made, control electronics. This ensures the pneumatic cylinder applies the exact amount of force required on the sample. This down force, digitally setup and very repeatable, allows all pressed powder samples to be prepared with very high consistency in seconds.

Laboratory tests demonstrate an optimum packing density with a sample consistency not achievable with manual techniques.

Powder sample prepared with XRD SoftPress

The XRD SoftPress is the result of collaboration with scientists at Curtin University, Western Australia, to meet their requirements for repeatable sample prep.

Samples are initially poured inside a sample holder on a separate mechanical jig. With the suitable quantity ready, the user manually places the mechanical jig inside the instrument chamber. When the door is closed and locked, the pressing process can start. The user controls the parameters  such as pressing force and duration are set via a touch screen.
